Math History — Thales & Problem Solving

  • Thales was a Greek math­e­mati­cian that is said to have trav­eled to Egypt and cal­cu­lat­ed the height of the pyra­mid at Giza by com­par­ing the length of his shad­ow to the length of the shad­ow of the pyra­mid. This com­par­i­son using sim­i­lar tri­an­gles is the type of rea­son­ing that we used today to do some math scale problems. 
  • Thales was known as the “Father of Deduc­tive Rea­son­ing” and is said to be the teacher of Pythagoras.
