3 Reasons to Home Educate

You may have seen my facebook live last week in which I spoke on three of the reasons that we homeschool.

These three things keep us going on the hard days:

1. Freedom : to learn, study, travel, build, play, discover, experience, and worship God. We do most of these things by encountering God in His word and in His creation.

2. Responsibility : to raise responsible members of God’s kingdom by modeling good habits, righteousness, and grace.

3. To want to learn : to grow children who are not only great at learning, but also are enchanted by God’s truth, goodness, and beauty.

For years, I tried doing this all myself. I failed. Which is why I started Scio Academy as a homeschool resource for families that still leaves parents in the driver’s seat.

How do we do that?

1. Freedom for homeschool families is important : I don’t want to take your freedom to call today a field trip day because the weather is 75 and sunny. Our classes are recorded and hosted live weekly to give you the freedom to come or… not. Our email support is always available because we want to be here for you when you need us. Not the other way around.

2. Responsible children become responsible adults : Our classes work with and hold the student responsible to complete her work. You as the parent set those parameters and grade work, but if you need a “bad guy” to challenge your child to work  we’ve got you covered.

3. Willing learners are the best learners : Yes you could do math with an automated video robot. You could do it alone in your room or even by playing games, but doing a hard task alone quickly becomes drudgery. We not only host live classes each week, but we also have weekly clubs meant to inspire our children to enjoy the process of learning. Not to mention having a willing and very real person emailing your children.

If you’re trying to do everything by yourself, please know that asking for help doesn’t mean that you have to give up your freedom. You can have both. We are here to help you.
