You've spent the money and time to do what no other educator has done... teach your child logic. Congratulations!
You may be wondering, What now? How do we continue being earth movers and changers. How do we challenge our children to use what they're learning? How do we not lose the knowledge we've gained in logic?
We joyfully and fearfully plunge into the next step... Debate!
Here are three easy paths into debate with your students:
- wrestle with ideas together by applying your logic to current events, politics, and culture. This is called informal debate and we engage in it everyday. (WORLD magazine is a great source for current events)
- start formal debate by assembling a small group of students, connecting them with a mentor, and finding a text to walk you through the process of engaging in formal debate. (Classical Academic Press' Everyday Debate and Discussion is a good option)
- find a local debate club to practice both informal and formal debate. (STOA and NCFCA are two christian home education groups that host speech and debate clubs, for more political debate focus consider Teenpact)
There you have it! Everything you need to know to start the next step and build the bridge from logic to rhetoric!
