Last year my family read aloud Bob Goff's new book, "Dream Big". We really enjoyed it. Truly. However, some of us also struggle with the jump from the ideal dream to reality. The fact is that none of our dreams have ever come true the way that we've first envisioned them. If it never comes to fruition, why dream?
As a pessimist by nature, I sometimes come up against the fact that my God is an optimist. Maybe it's because He knows the end of the story, or that He is the Story and has this incredible omnipotence. In my head I know that my dreams are not perfect and are therefore flawed and shouldn't come to pass. There is something about being human and having the need to start a dream albeit imperfectly in order to experience the reality.
As I study God more and more, I see how he has made humans to reflect Him. Because of Him we laugh, we love, and we dream. God dreamt up creation and then He spoke. I love that. Even though my dreams are never perfect, by dreaming with my family and submitting them to God, He uses them to His glory.
With that in mind, take some time to dream this summer. Think up a spectacularly imperfect plan. You don't have to do anything with it. However, if you dream it up with your family, submit it to God, and watch what happens, you will be pleasantly surprised!
