Anyone can join scio! Scio's courses are ideally geared for middle and high school students. Membership is per family so the cost doesn't change based on the number of students in your home making Scio an affordable educational option for all families. Whether you are supplementing your child's education or using Scio courses as main coursework, Scio courses have something for everyone!
Scio membership is per family so if your family has 2, 3, or 8 students, they can all join any classes that we offer. For example, your 7th grader can take part in our prealgebra course, while your freshman is in algebra and your sophomore is reading through Geometry with us! It's all included for each person in your immediate family for one low monthly price!
Scio courses are designed for middle and high school courses. If you are wondering what level mathematics course your student is in, then we recommend that you give your child a math placement exam, check out the resource page to see where to find some of these.
You can also have your student watch some of our recorded classes to see how he understands the concepts in each course.
We work hard at Scio to make all of our material and courses both challenging but also easy to navigate and understandable. If you are struggling with this, please contact us with your questions.
As an online membership, our classes are designed as tutoring sessions centered on problem solving and questions. Because families' grading policies differ, Scio does not grade students' work. Some of the tutorials like logic do contain unit assessments online to help make assessing a student's progress easier on the parent, but Scio does not officially grade students' work.
Our math courses do include chapter assignments for students to complete and submit to their tutor for feedback. While we don't assign a grade to these assignments, this feedback gives parents the information they need to assign a grade to their child's work.
Under Scio's membership: As the parent, you are in control. That is why we don't require that students attend specific courses at specific times, but try to defer all of our services to meet you where you are at. Most homeschool parents find themselves giving up some freedom to meet a high school education's requirements. We don't want to add any more limitations to you and your family. That's why we offer tutoring via email and record all of our sessions. That way your student gets the help that he or she needs without adding yet one more requirement to your schedule.
Under Scio's live courses: You are still in control. Yes, Scio assigns the work, leads the discussions, and assesses the student's assignments, but as the parent you hold and will always hold veto power. If your student can't make a class or can't complete an assignment in the way that we assigned it, then let your course instructor know and we will adjust to your needs.
Our return policy is simple: If you don't like it, then cancel anytime.
There's no obligation for you to continue to pay for a service that isn't serving your family. We understand that every family needs to do what's best for their family. We strive to serve our members, but understand that math tutoring online isn't for everyone.
When you cancel you will no longer be charged for your account, but will receive access to Scio for the remainder of the paid membership.
Scio Academy's online small group tutoring is a unique combination of general instruction and specific assistance. Each of our live sessions meet weekly from September - May and are composed of two elements:
- short instruction based on the course's syllabus, and
- tutoring based on the students' questions
Each session is recorded and stored under the specific tutorial for future viewing and learning. In fact, joining Scio in the summer gives you time to view and watch last year's tutoring sessions.
