Whatever is Noble

I have the privilege of teaching at a classical Christian conservatory once a week, and one of my roles this year is to lead the morning song. I had come across the song “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”, and it has been a fun and edifying way to begin the day. It begins: “I know that my redeemer lives, glory hallelujah, what comfort this assurance gives, glory hallelujah.” Amen right?

Every morning at 8:45 I line up my energetic students and march upstairs, but to be honest, there are times that I have to remind myself that my redeemer lives. Like everyone, I have mornings where I show up, less than enthused about the start of my day, and the last thing I want is to be up front calling the troops to battle. But these days tend to be the most rewarding, because the fact that my redeemer lives isn’t contingent upon my spiritual excellence.

As we as parents know, we cannot push the pause button on life. We can’t always take the day off of school, or go back to bed, or cancel breakfast, just because we aren’t up to the task. These moments, however, are paramount.
When I am saying over and over to myself on the way up to start the day with twenty three disciples “I know that my redeemer lives”, the “glory hallelujah” becomes more and more authentic. When we are struggling with our morning time during the week and my attitude is, shall we say...eclectic, stopping what we are doing to remind ourselves of what is true, and good, and beautiful, is the best remedy. The curriculum can wait. Our lists and schedules and transcripts, are all subservient to our chief end: to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
