Our posts may seem a long way off of the road of Mathematics. Let us not forget that we got here from seeking the eternal through His language. Mathematics points us to the Redeemer.
Christ redeemed man -> Christ is worthy of worship
The Old Testament prophets continually spoke of a coming redeemer. One who would make a way for man to approach the seat of God. Isaiah says that He will show the perfect way and be the teacher of the Gentiles. He is the master of the nations.
A deliverer should come, who would crush the demon’s head, and free His people from their sins, ex omnibus iniquitatibus (Pascal, 736, “from all his iniquities”)
These prophecies were fulfilled completely in Christ. He came. He crushed the head. He redeemed his people. It is important for us to understand that not one man said that a redeemer should come, but innumerable men foretold his coming.
Christ was beaten and bruised on the cross, but in the crucifixion Christ embodied the sins of His people and took the punishment. Justice was served. Christ was dead. As my son would say, He didn’t stay dead. He crushed the serpent’s head in His resurrection. In the death of Christ He freed His people, in the resurrection of Christ, He crushed the enemy. Therefore, we seek to worship Him and
An entire nation foretell Him before His advent, and an entire nation worship Him after His advent. (Pascal, 737)
As we seek to worship Christ post advent, we seek to know who Christ is. As the focus of both the old and new testament, Christ is a worthy focus.
Jesus Christ, whom the two Testaments regard, the Old as its hope, the New as its model, and both as their centre (Pascal, 740).
