What Frustration Reveals

Our walk through the truths of Pascal continues...

...if there be a true religion on earth, the course of all things must tend to it as to a centre. (Pascal, 556)

Our own ineptness reveals to us something greater. For it is never more clear to man that he is not god more so than when he tries to know everything. It doesn't matter what you try to learn or master, you will come to an end. As Pascal reminds us, all of our studies tend towards the great mystery of something greater. For if there is a true god, he should do nothing less than be at the center of everything. He is in all and through all. "All things were created through him and by him, both in the heavens and the earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones of rulers or dominions - all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together." (Col 1 :16-17)

If in our search for the center of all things we are frustrated, let us remember that we are frustrated with ourselves. It isn't that God hasn't revealed himself to us. It is that we are limited, sinful humans. Our ineptness reminds us that...

There is a God whom man can know, and... there is a corruption in their nature which renders them (humans) unworthy of Him (God). It is equally important for man to know both these points; and it is equally dangerous for man to know God without knowing his own wretchedness... (Pascal, 556)

Do you feel hopeless trying to understand your math? Or literature lesson? Or science project? It may seem hopeless, but it's not. Our lack of understanding reveals to us our need for a savior.
