Did you know that the first half of Algebra 2 is an algebra 1 review? Do you know why? Because we forget.
We are forgetful creatures. If you don't believe me, read the old testament. How many times does God tell His people to obey His statues and He would bless them? How many times do I need to remind myself of the words of Christ? I read them over and over, because I forget.
This forgetfulness is a pandemic among us humans. We forget to text our dads on father's day, we forget to water the plants, we forget to charge our phones. If we can forget things that we encounter everyday, imagine how easy it is for us to forget information, procedures, and tasks that we studied once and haven't seen in months.
Most Algebra 2 courses take over two months to review the contents of Algebra 1, because most students study geometry in between Algebra 1 and 2. While some of geometry uses the material in Algebra 1, most of it is very different. Geometry is the visual reality of the truths that we studied in Algebra, and just like you can write a book without knowing how to diagram a complex sentence, you can study a good chunk of geometry without knowing the intricacies of the language of Algebra. However, you can't study Algebra 2 without knowing Algebra 1.
How best do we review Algebra 1? The same way that we review any other skill? We practice.
