Think back to when you were contemplating homeschooling. Whether you’re here for a year or 20, the decision to homeschool came out of an ideal that you had in your head. Even if you think that you’re only here for a year, you’re here because homeschooling offered you something that public or private schooling did not.
What does that have to do with Christmas break?
Think about your ideal homeschool day. Now that you’ve been doing this for more than an hour, you know that that ideal doesn’t really exist in the real world. Like all ideals, it’s practically impossible. However, you can focus on what appeals to you from your ideal. What drew you to this particular ideal?
Christmas break, as it turns out, is the perfect time to stop the madness of “traditional” school and focus more on the ideal. During advent we are to wait for the coming savior, which means that we stop. We take things a little slower, and we think more.
In this time of reflection and thinking, think about these things:
- What went well this fall?
- What didn’t go well?
- What does my ideal look like?
- What is realistic about my ideal?
- What part of my ideal could we put into place during advent?
- How do we make room for the messiah?
- Why are we here?
You will be blown away by the things that the Lord can teach you in this time of quiet reflection or loud family-filled wonder. Take the time to prioritize His priorities. Merry Christmas!
