Why Rest?

Unless you've been living under a rock, you most likely spent a considerable amount of time this past spring at home. The irony though is that most likely it wasn't completely full of rest. While some of the world slowed down and enjoyed their families, many homeschool families continued their daily grind.  Many of those families that were able to get some time off were faced with the economic hardship that comes with job loss and global panic. Of course, we are all affected by the virus and fight the fear daily with the Word of God and Prayer.

Now that you may have returned to work, and the world is playing catch up, do you have time for a proper rest?  What is a proper rest anyway?

Rest is a shortened form of the word restoration, and doesn't necessarily mean lazy or inactive. Rest is received or pursued and fills you up towards contentment. The activities that build restoration differ for each person depending on our strengths, character, and interests. They even vary based on our circumstance. A great conversation with a friend over some tea and cookies today may be very restful, but after 3 such visits I'd no longer call this restful.

Notice how even Christ calls us to action when he says,

"Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Matthew 11:28

Certainly, if Christ calls us to rest, then we need to seek it out.

While we are thinking about rest, consider these facts:

Rest is personal.

Rest is fulfilling.

Rest is necessary.

Rest comes from Christ.

Have you had rest lately? True fulfilling rest? Take some time this month to define rest and petition it from the Master of rest, He is very generous and will give you all you need.
