Let's face it: You have a routine, whether you plan it or not.
your routine becomes habit -> your habits determine your lifestyle
That’s normally how our lives progress, but I want to urge you to flip this around. What if our routine didn’t determine our lifestyle, but our lifestyle dictated our routine?
First: Acknowledge our struggle.
We are habitual creatures constantly flocking to the familiar and comfortable. Naturally, life happens and we settle into a routine that leads to coping habits and over the long haul, becomes our lifestyle. This is why even those of us who eschew structure and order still have a routine. Without direction or guidance, we become lost, but with too much structure, we become lost in a sea of tasks. Change is hard.
Second: Promote healthy change.
Explore the Who’s, What’s, Why’s, When’s, and How’s of a lifestyle:
1. Why? - Identify the big picture and goals of your family.
2. What? - Determine the habits that lead to the big picture
3. How? - Create the routine that will build those healthy habits
4. Who? - Choose accountability partners for the change in routine ahead
5. When? - Start the new routine for your family at an agreed upon time and stick with it!
Each of these steps is a proactive decision that you and your family make. Start the dialogue and determine the future lifestyle of your family together!
