My family recently moved to the south. We are a bunch of Northern New England folks. I mean, true north. I can trace both of my parents' lineages back to New England settlers in the 1600s. Before that? They lived in Scandinavia, France, and England. Needless to say, the north is in our blood.
Being in the south has been an interesting adventure, but it's not a complete foreign country. Sure, they eat Chick-Fil-a (I had to lookup that spelling!) for breakfast and drive slow in the left lane, but they're nice, and they laugh. a lot.
North or South, something that I've seen is that no matter where we are from we all look forward to spring break. In the North, spring break is a reminder that spring is coming and a great time to get in some skiing in above 20 degree temps. In the south, spring break is a week off from school where you can spend time outside before the insufferable heat shows up! We all love spring break!
In a way, spring break represents the light at the end of the tunnel. Sure, school isn't complete for the year, but we are all planning next year's classes. More often than not, Spring break is a time to remind ourselves of why we homeschool. What is our philosophy or vision of our school? Why are we doing this work? The depression of winter has passed. The excitement of a new school year is coming, and in the lull, we want to refocus ourselves.
How do we end the year strong?
Spring break is the breath before the sprint, the sun before the melt, the warmth before the heat. Let's celebrate this break by setting ourselves up to finish the school year strong and start the next one that much stronger!
