Why Encouragement?

Why should we encourage each other?

I can't honestly say that I've ever thought that we shouldn't encourage each other and I daresay you haven't either.  Yet, can we honestly name one person that we've purposely encouraged this week?

'Life is difficult. Wear a hard hat.'

Do we spend time building each other up? Our phones track how much time we've spent on social media each week. How does that number compare to how much time we've put into others?

It's ironic how a homeschooling mother can carry around this immense amount of guilt surrounding how little time she spends with her kids.  She is with her children all the time.  Seriously.  Every second of the day, yet, she may still feel as though she isn't mentally present with her children. We know this, yet do we speak the truth to these women?  Do we tell them they are doing a great job?

We all struggle with something.  It's the nature of the fall.  Our job is to figure out what it is and then help each other see the truth from the lies and become more like Christ.

A mother of high schoolers may find herself wondering how to get back to the beginning.  Like Inigo Montoya in the Princess Bride, when our teenagers fight against us over and over, we want to go back.  How do we go back to the beginning where it all started?  With the picnics in the park, reading Piggy and Gerald, and enjoying grapes while laughing at the clouds.  The journey makes us more like Christ, but sometimes we feel as though we could really use a redo.  A chance to go back and do things differently.

How do we help each other get back to our inspiration? How do we rebuild our relationships with our children? How do we build each other up? What do we truly long for?

These are the questions that I'm pondering this month. These are the questions that we will be pondering together in this month's educator sessions. So join me. Think about it. How do we encourage each other on our journeys? Let's learn together.
